Milwaukee Rear Handle Saw Review 2830-20

Milwaukee 2830-20 Review-Best Cordless Rear Handle Circular SawVS Milwaukee 2830-20 Review-Best Cordless Rear Handle Circular Saw

Why Use a Milwaukee Rear Handle Saw?

The rear handle circular saw provides various benefits over the sidewinder style.

The first benefit of the rear handle circular saw is the ergonomics. The rear handle placement allows for better control and straighter cuts.

Another benefit of rear handle circular saws is fewer kickbacks.

The last, and perhaps the biggest benefit of the rear handle circular saw is the increased torque from the motor placement. The motor on the rear handle circular saws is actually behind the blade instead of inline with the blade. On the rear handle saws, the motor transfers power through a gearbox to the blade which allows for increased torque.

The Milwaukee 2830-20 Rear Handle Circular Saw is one of the few cordless worm drive circular saws on the market.

The Milwaukee 2830-20 Rear Handle Circular Saw is meant to be as powerful as a 15 amp corded circular saw. While we have not been able to get our hands on the saw to do a direct comparisonmany users have said it is a very powerful saw.

With the massive 12ah battery, the Milwaukee rear handle saw review is rated for 570 2×4 cuts on one charge.

The saw has an electric brake that brings the blade to a halt in just over 1 second after trigger release.

A great feature of the 2830-20 is the led work light, while it may seem like a small detail, it can really come in handy when working in a dark environment.

The Milwaukee Rear Handle Saw review is not exactly lightweight coming in at around 12lbs with a 12ah battery.

The 2830-20 comes with a 5-year warranty, ensuring you will be happy with your investment.

There are a few downsides with the Milwaukee 2830-20 Rear Handle Circular Saw.

First, the saw is powered by one large battery rather than two smaller batteries, which means that someone already on the Milwaukee platform may have to acquire larger batteries.

Another downside is the sawdust seems to spit out towards the handle.

Milwaukee 2830-20 Best Cordless Milwaukee Rear Handle Saw Review– Final Verdict

All in all, this is a great circular saw, leaving little more to ask for. If weight is not an issue and you will be using the circular saw often the Milwaukee 2830-20 Rear Handle Circular Saw is a great option. The biggest drawback for me personally is the fact that it runs on one giant 12AH battery. Once the battery is dead I have to wait for it to charge again before I can use the saw or I would have to buy a second 12AH battery for the insane price. The Makita Version of this saw runs on two, more standard 5AH batteries.

If you are more of a casual DIY’er and you have a smaller budget, I might suggest you go with a more budget-friendly circular saw. Personally, while I am not solely a framer, I enjoy framing a lot and when I do get a chance to pull out my circular saw, the rear handle saw is something I can appreciate.

If you are not on the Milwaukee platform already, you may want to opt for a saw on your current battery platform. Dewalt, Makita, and Milwaukee each have their own worm drive cordless options. Check out our recent review of the Makita cordless rear handle circular saw here.
